Odisha: Retired Assistant Tax Collector Sentenced to 2-Yr RI in Corruption Case

Subarnapur: A retired Assistant Tax Collector has been sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment following his conviction in a corruption case.

The Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir convicted Sibaram Sahu, the retired Assistant Tax Collector (retired) of Subarnapur Municipality, Subarnapur, who was chargesheeted by Odisha Vigilance for misappropriation of government money and sentenced him to a rigorous imprisonment.

Sibaram Sahu has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and pay a fine of Rs 10,000.

Sahu was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) PC Act,1988/409 of the IPC, for misappropriation of government money collected towards water supply connection fees, construction fees, licence fees for cabins, weekly market fees, and parking fees etc of the Municipality from different tax payers by issuing money receipts and not depositing the same in the Daily Collection Register of Municipality as per Orissa Municipality Rule-1953.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Sibaram Sahu following his conviction.
