Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government today revoked the provisions of the Disaster Management Act for Covid-19 containment measures after two years.
The State Government had notified enforcement of the DM Act, 2005 for Covid containment on March 13, 2020.
The decision to revoke the Act was taken after considering the overall improvement in Covid situation and preparedness of the Government to deal with the pandemic.
“Wherever any surge in the number of cases is observed, the Health and Family Welfare Department may take prompt and proactive action as advised by the Health Ministry from time to time,” the Special Relief Commissioner’s office said in an order.
The Centre had revoked the provisions of the Disaster Management Act for Covid-19 containment measures on March 22 this year in view of “overall improvement in the situation and preparedness of the government” to deal with the pandemic.
The Centre said that there may not be any further need to invoke the provisions of DM Act for COVID containment measures. However, use of mask and hand hygiene will continue.
