Odisha: Students of Govt Schools to Learn IT, Coding

Bhubaneswar: The students of government and government-aided high schools across Odisha will learn about Information Technology (IT) and coding as a part of their curriculum.

The high school students from 8,860 government schools will be taught about computational thinking as a part of their curriculum, which will be introduced in schools from August 2023 onwards.

This is part of the Kaushali club curriculum for computational thinking and is under the aspirational program of the 5T High School Transformation initiative.

The classes will be held twice a week through the clubs. It includes a 30-hour curriculum with 25 marks devoted to its assessment.

Training of trainers who will be imparting training to students has been started at the state level. Three-day training of Master Trainers starting from Thursday is underway at three high schools-Unit VII Government Boys’ High School, Unit VIII Government Girls’ High School and Syed Mamtaj Ali High School here, according to a press release.

Around 89 Science teachers from block level have taken part in this training programme. IT experts are imparting training to the trainees. This programme is being conducted by ‘Mo School’ under the School & Mass Education Department.

The aspirational curriculum is being introduced in schools through school clubs. Four school clubs – Kridangan, Kousali, Sahitya Srujani, Jigyansa – are being newly introduced in the curriculum. To manage it successfully, master trainers are now being trained at the state level.

The training for Kridangan Club was completed last week and now training for Kousali Club is going on. The 3-day training of master trainers of Kousali Club was started from Thursday in Government Boys’ High School at Unit VII, Government Girls’ High School at Unit VIII and Syed Mamtaj Ali High School in Nayapalli of Bhubaneswar.

‘Mo School’ is conducting the training programme in partnership with various institutions at the national level. The department is introducing the new curriculum to help the students meet the technology driven system.
