Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government will soon come up with its own sports policy to make the State as the sports hub, informed a minister in the Assembly today.
At present, the National Sports Policy is in force in the State. Odisha will have its own sports policy soon in order to promote different games in the State, told Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera to the House.
A draft on sports policy has been prepared and very soon the State will come up the new policy, he said.
The new policy is now being drafted as per the guidelines of the National Sports Policy, he added.
The Minister further stated that out of 47 sports events in the country, 40 events are conducted in Odisha.
He also alleged that the Centre was not providing adequate financial assistance for tournaments and other sporting events in Odisha.
A detailed survey has been made to identify the number of players from the State participating in national and international events, he said while adding that the sportspersons, who have played at international sports events, have been provided jobs by the State Government in various sectors.
