Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has decided to introduce ‘Guided Self-Study’ covering 25 per cent of the syllabus for under-graduate (UG) and post-graduate (PG) students from 2020-21 academic session.
The Higher Education Department has issued modalities for ‘Guided Self Study’, which aims at promoting e-learning and enhancing competency level among students.
For UG courses, the entire second unit (25% of total four units) of each subject and paper has been earmarked for student self-study, except AECC (Ability Enhancement Compulsory Course) and SEC (Skill Enhancement Course) papers.
For PG courses, the respective PG Departments shall identify and earmark 25 percent of the syllabus of each paper for student self-study. The papers that involve project work, fieldwork and dissertation would continue to be conducted as before, as per the modalities.
The Higher Education Department said that there will be no regular classroom teaching for the portion of syllabus earmarked for students’ self-study. Rather, a synergetic combination of textbooks and e-learning resources (PPTs/recorded lectures/ animated videos) shall be prescribed, it added.
The faculties will take classes for four hours to clear the doubts of the students in physical classroom mode. Mid-term internal assessment will be conducted to ensure that the students take the self-study seriously.
