Odisha to Start Aadhaar Enrollment of Newborns at Hospitals Soon

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has decided to start Aadhaar enrollment of newborns in the hospitals soon.
The move aims at achieving cent per cent Aadhaar saturation in the 0-5 years age group, according to reports.
As part of the Baal Aadhaar initiative, the newborns will be enrolled without biometrics. The Baal Aadhaar has a 12 digit unique identification number, like the Aadhaar for adults.

For children below 5 years no biometrics will be captured. Their UID (unique identification number) be processed on the basis of demographic information and facial photograph linked with the UID of their parents. These children will need to update their biometrics of ten fingers, iris and facial photograph, when they turn 5 and 15. Intimation to this effect will be mentioned in the original Aadhaar letter.

Out of 40.36 lakh children below five years age group in the State, nearly 14.83 lakh children have been enrolled, according to reports.
