Berhampur/Jharsuguda: Two hardcore criminals were arrested in separate police firings in Odisha.
The dreaded criminal, identified as Binod Prasad, reportedly an accomplice of ‘coal mafia’ Sonu Ghosh, was arrested near Chualiberna under Brajrajnagar police limits in Jharsuguda district last night.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided near Chualiberna area last night and intercepted Binod. Spotting the cops, Binod opened fire at them while trying the escape. However, he sustained a bullet injury on his right leg.
Prasad, who is wanted by the police in several criminal cases including that of murder and robbery, has been admitted to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital under police vigil.
In another police firing in Ganjam district, Sushant Behera alias Koko, who is accused in several heinous crimes including recent murderous attack on Sudhir Padhi of Ganjam, was nabbed after police firing at Jayashree Chemical Square under Ganjam police limits at around 4.20 am on Saturday.
Koko (25), a resident of Rajib Nagar area in Berhampur, sustained bullet injuries during encounter following which he has been admitted to the MKCG Medical College & Hospital in Berhampur, sources said. Two constables of Police team also received minor injuries, according to reports.
The police seized one red color Yamaha motor cycle, one mouser, two live cartridges, two mobiles seized from the spot. After receiving reliable information about the presence of Koko, a team of Ganjam police raided the area to apprehend him.
During gunfire, the hardcore criminal sustained injuries on his left leg. He was immediately shifted to Sub Divisional hospital, Chatrapur for treatment and subsequently shifted to MKCG, Berhampur, sources added.
