Bhubaneswar: A Welfare Extension Officer in Mayurbhanj district has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment following her conviction in a bribery case.
Ludasini Nayak, Ex-Welfare Extension Officer, Nuagaon Block, Nayagarh district, A/p- Welfare Extension Officer, Badampahad, Mayurbhanj district, who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS case No.7/2014 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act,1988 for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant to cause an enquiry and to submit report to District Welfare Officer (DWO), Nayagarh regarding the inter-caste marriage, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.
The Welfare Extension Officer has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) PC Act, 1988, the Vigilance said.
The Court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and payment of fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Further, Nayak was sent to jail custody to serve her sentence.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for dismissal of Nayak from service following her conviction.
