Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s biggest milk producer, Omfed – Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation has hiked the prices of various types of milk in the state. While Omfed toned milk will now cost Rs 23 instead of Rs 21, Premium Milk price has been increased to Rs 26 from Rs 24. The popular variety milk – Omfed Gold Milk will be costlier by Rs 2. A 500 ml packet will now cost Rs 26. Likewise, the Chai Special Milk will cost Rs 25 instead of Rs 23. The new prices will be effective from 1st April 2023. Omfed has attributed the price hike to increased cost of raw materials, packaging and pay out to the milk farmers of the state.
According to Omfed, 90 percent of the cost of OMFED milk goes towards procurement of milk from the farmers. Omfed has been giving fair prices to the milk producers and thereby ensuring the sustainability of milk production in the state. Consumer costs have also increased with an increase in ancillary costs as well as operational costs of packaging, marketing, etc. Despite higher prices for milk purchases, consumer prices were kept intact by Omfed for over the past year.
