Berhampur: Over 15 persons have fallen ill after consuming illicit country liquor in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The shocking incident was reported from Chikiti area of the district last night.
More than 15 people have fallen seriously ill after consuming spurious liquor in Moundpur village. After consuming the hooch purchased from a local shop, they started vomiting and their condition suddenly worsened. They were admitted to Chikiti Community Health Centre.
All the victims are from Karbala and Jenapur villages in Chikiti area.
The police and excise officials reached the area after learning about the incident. They have started search operations in Moundpur, Jenapur, and Karbalua areas. However, no arrest has been made in this regard so far, as per the reports.
Notably, in 2006, a major hooch tragedy had claimed 29 lives in Ganjam distlrict.
