Puri Becomes First City In India To Implement Drink From Tap

Puri: It seems that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s aim to transform Puri into a World Class city having the best amenities is inching closure every passing day. Today, the city is proud of becoming the first city in the country to implement the Drink From Tap water facility that ensures hundred percent clean drinking water to all the population through taps. Now, Puri joins the league of international cities like London, New York, Los Angeles and Singapore in providing Drink-From-Tap quality piped drinking water to all its citizens.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the Sujal project for Puri that will provide 24 x 7 Drink-From-Tap quality water to every household under the 5T Initiatives transformation process. The project has been granted the prestigious IS:10500 for quality management.

A transformative project, the Drink-From-Tap mission, is a step in the direction of transforming Jagannath Dham, Puri, into a world class heritage city. Now, more than 2.5 lakh psople of this heritage city now has access to Drink-From-Tap quality water round-the-clock. It will also cater to the needs of the more than two crore tourists who come to this spiritual capital of the country. This drinking water scheme eliminates the usage of 3 crore plastic bottles preventing 400 metric tonnes of plastic waste.

The Drink From-Tap Mission, under the 5T Governance mantra, aims to cover 16 towns of the state and will provide clean drinking water to more than 40 lakh population. The project entails an estimated cost of about Rs 1300 Crore.
