Puri: The district administration has started the process of eviction in the 75 meter vicinity of Shri Jagannath Temple. Initially the structures near to the Meghanadi Pacheri and Dakhina Dwara will be removed today. Large numbers of police forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.
As many as 24 platoons of police along with magistrates are deployed to the spot in order to maintain law and order. Collector Balwant Singh and SP Umashankar Das are supervising the process. The move comes after the government decided to implement the recommendations made by Justice BP Das Commission of Inquiry to ensure security of Puri Srimandir and reforms.
Initially the shoe stand, information kiosk, some private properties and power supply installations near to the Dakhsina Dwara are being removed. In a phasewise manner, 75 meters vicinity of the Temple will be cleared. The government has decided to give adequate compensation to the owners of the private property which are to be removed.
