RIR to Open Semiconductor Device Manufacturing Facility at Khordha Tomorrow
Bhubaneswar: RIR Power Electronics, a subsidiary of US-based Silicon Power Group, is all set to open its new semiconductor device manufacturing facility in Odisha tomorrow.
The silicon carbide manufacturing facility will be inaugurated at Infovalley, Khordha by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
It would be the first semiconductor plant in Odisha to manufacture semiconductor devices for power and ancillary industries.
“We are excited to announce the opening of our new SiC based Semiconductor Device Manufacturing Facility on 6th September 2024, 11.30am at Khurdha, Odisha”, RIR Power Electronics informed through its ‘X’ handle.
Notably, in July last year, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had sent a high level Odisha Government delegation comprising the then IT Minister Tusharkanti Behera, the then 5T Secretary VK Pandian, the then Development Commissioner Anu Garg and former E&IT Principal Secretary Manoj Kumar Mishra to the Silicon Valley to woo global companies for investment in Odisha.
During the visit, the delegation held discussion with Dr. Harshad Mehta, promoter of US based Silicon Power Group, regarding the manufacturing facility. The group had envisaged its interest to set up the150mm silicon carbide manufacturing facility in Odisha with an investment of Rs 1000 crore. Dr. Mehta had submitted a Letter of Intent to the Odisha Government delegation regarding the plant.
Within a year of submission of the Letter of Intent, RIR Power Electronics is now inaugurating its facility in the state.
The inauguration will mark Odisha’s phenomenal success in developing the semiconductor ecosystem in the state.
