Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly continues to witness uproar over the Ganjam hooch tragedy for the fourth consecutive day on Friday.
As soon as the proceedings began on Friday, the opposition BJD and Congress members rushed to the well of the House demanding resignation of the Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan over the death of two persons due to the consumption of spurious liquor in the Chikiti area of Ganjam district.
Opposition Chief Whip Pramilla Mallik said that the members of the ruling party have hand-in-gloves with illicit liquor traders. They will not act against them. They believe in words only not in action, Mallik said while demanding resignation of the Excise Minister on moral grounds.
The House was adjourned till 11.30 a.m. by Speaker Surama Padhy due to the pandemonium.
Notably, at least 23 persons from Moundpur, Jenapur, and Karabalua in Chikiti block had consumed country liquor from an unlicensed shop on Monday evening. They later fell ill and were admitted to in the hospital. Two of them died during treatment on Wednesday.
