Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Election Commission has revised the expenditure limits for candidates contesting for various positions in the forthcoming Urban Local Body elections. The revised limits of expenditure for candidates contesting as Councillor, Corporator, Chairperson and Mayor for the NACs, Municipalities and Municipal Corporations have been notified by the SEC.
According to the notification, in NACs and Municipalities having a population of up to 50 thousand, the maximum limit of election expenses by a candidate for Councillor or Corporator will be Rs 50,000. The maximum limit of election expenses by a candidate for Chairperson or Mayor for these categories of ULBs will be Rs 2,00,000.
Likewise, for Municipalities having a population between 50 thousand and one lakh, the maximum limit of election expenses by a candidate for Councillor or Corporator will be Rs 75,000. The maximum limit of election expenses by a candidate for Chairperson or Mayor in this category of ULBs has been revised to Rs 3,00,000.
For Municipalities having a population of above one lakh, the maximum limit of election expenses by a candidate for Councillor or Corporator shall be Rs 1,00,000 and for candidates contesting for Chairperson or Mayor, the maximum limit will be Rs 5,00,000.
In Municipal Corporations, the maximum limit of election expenses by a candidate for Councillor or Corporator will be Rs 2,00,000 and the maximum limit of election expenses by a candidate for Chairperson or Mayor will be Rs 12,00,000.
