New Delhi: The Lok Sabha today passed the Special Economic Zones (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
The Bill will replace the Special Economic Zones (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019.
The amendment Bill, which became the first legislation to be passed by the newly-constituted 17th Lok Sabha, allows trust or any entity notified by the Central government to be eligible to set up a unit in SEZs.
The Bill will be now tabled in the Rajya Sabha where the government lacks numbers.
It was introduced in the Lok Sabha following the approval by the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this month.
