Shakti Bazar to Promote Women SHG Products in Sundargarh District

Rourkela: In a bid to promote various products made by Women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) in Sundargarh district, the Rourkela Municipality Corporation has opened an exclusive Shakti Bazar at Koelnagar here to facilitate marketing of their products.

Attending the inauguration ceremony, Rourkela MLA and Sundargarh District Planning Committee Chairman Sarada Prasad Nayak, Sundargarh Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan, Rourkela Municipal Commissioner Dr. Yeddula Vijay, RMC Social Development and Institutional Strengthening Expert Prasanta Kumar Nayak and RMC Knowledge Management and BCC Expert Bipin Mohapatra motivated the members of women SHGs to take advantage of the Shakti Bazar.

They have also lauded the Odisha Government’s initiatives for women empowerment and self-reliance of WSHGs.

The opening of Shakti Bazar will provide further boost the government efforts towards empowerment of women, said the speakers at the meeting held on the occasion of inauguration of the SHG market.

A total of 44 stalls have been put up at Shakti Bazar to facilitate sales and marketing of various handloom, handicraft, food items, spices and non-farm products manufactured by the WSHGs from different blocks of Sundargarh district.

The bazar will remain open from 10 am to 10 pm every day.

Rourkela Municipal Corporation will take several steps to strengthen the Shakti Bazar in the coming days, said an official.
