Bhubaneswar: Former India test opener and former Odisha Ranji team captain Shiv Sunder Das has been appointed as the batting coach of India women’s cricket team.
“For the first time I have been assigned a job with the India women’s senior national team”, he said.
He will be joining the Ramesh Powar-led support staff for the England tour in June.
Das played 23 Tests for India between 2000 and 2002. Das, a solid specialist opener for India in Tests, hit 1326 runs, including 2 hundreds. Das has a rich experience of playing in England as he had featured in Divison One during his heydays. Das had also hit a double hundred during a tour game with India in England.
The experience will certainly come in handy when he takes over the batting coaching duties for India women who will be played a Test, 3 ODIs and as many T20Is in England between June 16 and July 15.
