South Africa’s Opening T20I in India abandoned Due to Heavy Rain

Dharamsala: Excitement leading up to the first game of South Africa’s tour of India fell short of anticipation in the end, as the opening T20I in Dharamsala was abandoned due to persistent and heavy rainfall.

Intense downpours earlier in the day had initially looked likely to subside as the match’s start time loomed into the evening, however repeated bursts of inclement weather then quelled any chances of a ball being bowled, and the even the toss didn’t take place.

The Proteas, now skippered by wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock, must wait until Wednesday, 18 September to kickstart the short-format series in Chandigarh, before moving onto the three-match Test series after the final T20I in Bengaluru on Sunday, 22 September.
