State Cabinet Approves Rs Rs.330.17 Cr. for Establishment of Odisha University of Health Sciences

Bhubaneswar: The State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved Rs 330.17 crore for the establishment of “Odisha University of Health Sciences” which will facilitate achieving excellence in the field of Medical and Allied Health Education and Research.

More than 200 Under-graduate and Post graduate educational institutions are functioning in the State under their respective parent affiliating Universities for offering Degree or Diploma Courses having no specialized branches of study of their own exclusively in Health Sciences. As a result, focused restructuring curriculum, methods of teaching and teacher’s up-gradation continues to remain as a setback in the study of Health Sciences of the State. The establishment of a University of Health Sciences will address the gap in achieving the progressive educational objectives of the State, a press note issued by the CMO stated.

Hence, it is felt expedient to establish and incorporate a University as an Affiliating University in the name of “Odisha University of Health Sciences” which will facilitate achieving excellence in the field of Medical and Allied Health Education and Research.

The Expenditure Finance Committee Chaired by the Principal Secretary of Finance Department, has apprised the scheme with a total outlay of Rs.330.17 crore including Rs 100.75 core recurring expenditure and Rs 229.42 core non-recurring expenditure for implementation over a period of 5 years from 2022-23 to 2026-27, it added.
