Berhampur: The street vendors in Gopalpur NAC in Ganjam district have expressed their deep gratitude to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for extending financial assistance to deal with the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19 induced lockdown.
With the prolonged lockdown in the State in the wake of the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic impacting the livelihood of street vendors, the Chief Minister has sanctioned funds for them.
As many as 224 street vendors in Gopalpur NAC have received the financial assistance.
The beneficiaries have received Rs 3000 each through DBT.
The BJD leaders along with the street vendors have expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for this humanitarian gesture at this challenging time.
The COVID-19 pandemic has put profound effect on the people. It had the adverse impact on livelihoods. Street vendors in urban areas are suffering financially due to lockdowns meant to control the infection. The financial assistance by Odisha Government will provide great help to the street vendors, said a BJD leader from the Gopalpur Assembly Constituency.
The Chief Minister had also announced financial assistance for street vendors across 114 urban local bodies to deal with the Covid-19 lockdown during the first wave of pandemic.
