Subarnapur’s Jagannath Watershed Association Awarded as Best Watershed Committee in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels to the district, Subarnapur’s Jagannath Watershed Association has bagged the Best Watershed Committee award in the State.

The award was given to the Ulunda Block-based association at the Krushi Odisha by Minister of Science & Technology Ashok Kumar Panda.

Agriculture plays a key role in building the economy of Subarnapur district. Major chunk of households depend upon agriculture as their major source of livelihood. The agricultural activities in the district are largely rainfed. Hence, conservation of water and controlling surface runoff is essential to support agriculture.

In this context, Jagannath Watershed Association’s watershed approach helped the farmers to a great extent.
With its continuous efforts to rejuvenate the natural streams and water bodies along with providing a sustainable water source for agriculture, the association has been vigorously undertaking watershed management projects.
Subarnapur Collector Monisha Banerjee has congratulated the Jagannath Watershed Association for the achievement.
