Cuttack: It was a remarkable day for Indian Table Tennis here at Cuttack as the contingent continued to beat major countries and bagged almost all the gold medals of the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships.
In the last day of the tournament, Ayhika Mukherjee scripted history as she became the first Indian to win women’s singles gold medal at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship in Cuttack. It was a double delight for India with Madhurika Patkar securing the silver medal.
In the Men’s Singles category Harmeet Desai won the gold medal when he fought back from 0-2 down to beat top seed Sathiyan Ganasekaran 4-3 in the thrilling all-India final.
In the Men’s doubles event of the Championship, Indian duo of Anthony Amalraj and Manav Thakkar won gold medal and Sharath Kamal and Sathiyan won the silver medal for the hosts. English paddler Samuel Walker and Thomas Jarvis and Singaporean Pair Pang Yu En Koen & Chua Shao Han Josh settled for bronze medals in this tournament.
There was a super show by Indian paddlers in women’s doubles event in the tournament at Cuttack. Indian Women bagged all the gold medal, silver medal and bronze medal while Singapore women settled for a bronze.
