Malkangiri: Once a hotbed of Maoist activity, the Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri is celebrating true independence and the fruits of development have started to percolate down to the hitherto remote areas. Relentless efforts of the state government led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have brought enormous changes at the grassroots level in the cut-off areas of Malkangiri. Today, the people of Swabhiman Anchal do not fear the gun but are participating in the mainstream activities. They are not following the diktats of the Maoists, but are learning software skills at the Lal Ghar of the Maoists, their erstwhile ideological headquarters. Malkangiri Police has opened a Computer Skill Training Centre for the students of Swabhiman Anchal at Jodambo’s Lal Ghar – that once housed the Maoist ideologues and was a centre for their meetings and a place for strategising. The Computer Skills Center was inaugurated by Southern DIG Rajesh Pandit in the presence of SP Nitesh Wadhwani and other senior officials yesterday.
The Computer Centre has five computers and thirty students will be given training every morning. An instructor has also been deputed by the District Police for the Skills Centre. The Centre will impart Computer training to the youth of the Swabhiman Anchal free of cost under the community policing initiative. The District Police also distributed school bags and stationery items among the school students of Swabhiman Anchal.
Today, they have better roads, better health facilities, strong security apparatus to thwart any maoist activity and improved telecommunication infra. Gurupriya Setu has become the lifeline of the Swabhiman Anchal. It is now propelling the growth and development of one of the remotest areas of the country. The initiative taken by the Malkangiri Police, in furtherance to the developmental initiatives of the Odisha Government, will usher in a new dawn in making the youth of Swabhiman Anchal has become self reliant and a symbol of real Swabhiman for all.
