Sambalpur: Hirakud dam on Tuesday closed 10 gates of the reservoir due to decrease in water level of the reservoir.
The dam authorities took the decision following a stable inflow of water into the reservoir.
Currently, the floodwater is being discharged through only four sluice gates of the dam, sources said.
The water level of the dam stood at 619.45 ft at around 6 AM today as against its total storage capacity of 630 ft. While 2,39,846 cusec floodwater was being released from the dam per second, the inflow was 96,836 cusec per second this morning.
On Monday, Hirakud dam had opened seven more gates to release excess floodwater keeping in view inflow of heavy water into the reservoir following incessant rain in upper catchment of Mahanadi.
