Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal is all set to create history by clinching all the thirty Zilla Parishad President posts in the state. The Party had won in 766 Zilla Parishad zones out of the 851 for which elections were held recently. In 2017, the BJD had formed ZPs in 20 districts whereas the BJP and Congress had won in 8 and two districts respectively.
Yesterday, in another record of shorts for the Biju Janata Dal, its supported candidates were elected as Block Chairmen in 278 Blocks out of the total 314 Blocks. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress stood far behind with just 21 and 13 Panchayat Samitis respectively. The CPM has won three Panchayat Samitis.
In the recently held Panchayat polls, The Biju Janata Dal had won nearly 90 percent seats in the Zilla Parishad and the Panchayat Samiti elections. The BJP and the Congress could not open their accounts in 17 and 22 districts respectively.
