Transforming Waste to Wealth through ‘Mo Khata’ in ULBs of Keonjhar: 300MT Organic Compost Sold in FY 2022-23 So Far

Keonjhar: Under the ‘Mo Khata’ initiative taken up by ULBs of Keonjhar district till now more than 300MT organic compost has been sold in the financial year 2022-23 generating revenue of more than Rs 60 lakh.

The organic or wet waste is being processed in Micro Composting Centers using ‘enzyme solution’ and converted to compost-manure.
Exclusive sanitation vehicles (Safa Vehicle) are allocated for segregated door to door collection under DMF Keonjhar.

Till date more than Rs 60 lakh revenue has been generated from Keonjhargarh, Joda and Barbil municipalities in FY 2022-23, the district administration said.

The district administration has established wealth centers across municipalities for efficient waste processing. The end-to-end model covers all aspects by involving the community in a structured manner.

The decentralised initiative of solid waste management through the micro-composting initiative began in ULBs in Odisha in August 2019. This paradigm shift, with active involvement of Mission Shakti women SHGs, transgender people and ragpickers’ groups, has been converting these MCCs and MRFs into ‘Wealth Centres’.
