New Delhi: A day after the Indian Government passed the resolution to revoke the controversial Article 370 of the Indian Constitution and to bifurcate the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories, the United Nations has appealed India and Pakistan to exercise restraint over Kashmir issue.
The world body has urged the two neighbouring countries to exercise maximum restraint so that the situation does not go out of control.
In a statement the UN Secretary-General’s Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said this is the need of the hour.
“We are following with concern the tense situation in the region… We urge all parties to exercise restraint,” Dujarric said at the daily press briefing, adding that the UN is also aware of reports of restrictions in Kashmir in India”, Guterres said.
Dujarric was repling to a question on whether the Secretary General has any comment on India’s decision to revoke Kashmir’s special status and the Pakistani’s response that this is a violation of UNSC resolutions calling for a UN-organised plebiscite.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also appealed the two countries to exercise restraint over the issue.
