New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to postpone the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Service Prelims 2020 scheduled to be conducted on October 4, 2020. A plea was filed in the apex court to postpone the IAS exam further due to the outbreak of COVID 19.
The Supreme Court pointed out that the SOPs of home ministry have been followed in various public exams conducted recently and denied any special requests. SC directed the Centre to consider concessions for those aspirants who are on their last attempt.
Here, the apex court said that UPSC has to ensure that each centre should limit the number of candidates to 100. Further, those suffering from cough and cold will be made to sit separately. Meanwhile, Coronavirus patients will not be allowed to appear for the prelims, ruled SC.
The court also added that it is not feasible to merge 2020 prelims and 2021 prelims. The SC bench added that this will lead to cascading effect on other exams.
The UPSC prelims exam was originally scheduled to be held on May 20. However, it was postponed to October 4 due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Every year, 1 million candidates appear for the prelims examination for entry into various administrative posts in the government.
