Washington: Indian origin senator from California and a former prosecutor, Kamala Harris has created a history to become first woman, first Black person, and first person of Asian descent elected as the Vice President of USA.
In her victory speech on Saturday, Harris spoke of her mother and the generations of women of all races who paved the way for this moment.
“While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last,” she told a cheering and honking audience in Wilmington, Del. “Because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.” said Harris as quoted by NY Times.
She has risen higher in the country’s leadership than any woman ever has underscores the extraordinary arc of her political career.
A former San Francisco district attorney, she was elected as the first Black woman to serve as California’s attorney general in 2016.
