Pune: Veteran Hindi actor and theatre personality Shriram Lagoo passed away in Pune yesterday. He was 92. Lagoo, known for his perfectionist acting in both the Hindi and Marathi movies, also was a famous theatre personality. He was under medical supervision at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. His last rites will be held tomorrow.
Along with Marathi cinema and theatres, Lagoo was also a prominent actor in Bollywood. He has acted in noted films such as Kalaakar, Souten, Laawaris and Professor Pyarelal among others.
Lagoo had acted in over hundred Hindi and Marathi films and 40 Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati plays. He has directed over 20 plays in Marathi. He is best known for his role in the Marathi play Natasamrat. Some of his most prestigious works include Gidhade, Garbo and Atmakatha.
Lagoo received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his film Gharaonda in 1978. He was awarded Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratisthan for his contribution to cinema and theatre in 2016. Apart from being an eminent film personality, he was a surgeon. He has also directed numerous Marathi plays.
