Parlakhemundi: Gajapati Superintendent of Police Sarah Sharma, who recently earned appreciations from all quarters for collecting donation from shops and households for cyclone Fani victims, has come up with an innovative idea to create awareness on safety and security of girls and women in the district.
The IPS officer has formed a special team called ‘Safety-Health-Environment’ (SHE) team, a similar initiative that Hyderabad police has launched recently to fight crimes against women.
To create awareness on the initiative, Sharma lent her voice for the theme song of ‘SHE’ team infusing confidence among the girls and women.
The song signifies courage of a woman and assures them that SHE team is always there to protect them.
The SHE team will sensitize women about their rights and enable them realize their potential to the fullest to lead an independent lifestyle.
As part of the initiative, a team of police personnel headed by a lady sub-inspector and seven constables – four women and three men – will patrol educational institutions and other places frequently visited by women and girls to keep a watch on instances of harassment and eve-teasing.
The Gajapati SP’s initiative has been highly appreciated by people from all walks of life in the State.
