Bhubaneswar: While the Winter Session of the Parliament is going to be stormy this time amidst the Government bringing a bill to repeal the three Farm Laws, the Biju Janata Dal is expected to raise issues both concerning the State and Nation. The Biju Janata Dal is expected to support the repeal of the three Farm Bills as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had earlier welcomed the Prime Minister’s announcement in this regard. The BJD has been demanding the implementation of the M S Swaminathan Committee Report on Minimum Support Price for the farmers. Naveen has raised the issue at various forums and also written to the Prime Minister Modi on this.
Biju Janata Dal will also raise the issue of Paddy Procurement from the state. While the state is demanding an increase in the procurement of surplus par-boiled rice, the agencies are not listening to Odisha’s demands. Naveen had written a letter to PM Modi in this regard in October and said that non-lifting of surplus parboiled rice from the State due to restrictions imposed by the Department of Food and Public Distribution may affect 10 lakh farmers. Also, there are issues concerning inadequate release of fertilizers to the state which will be raised in the Parliament by the BJD.
The Biju Janata Dal members are also expected to once again raise the issue of 33 percent reservation for Women in the Parliament. The Party has been building a consensus among the all political parties of the country in this regard. Other issues such as 25 Crore persondays under MGNREGA, five lakh PMAY houses in cyclone prone areas, revision of royalty on coal, railway infrastructure, will also be raised by the Biju Janata Dal members in the Parliament.
