Bhubaneswar: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has presented the Award of appreciation to Odisha on its remarkable achievement on making good progress towards controlling and eradication Malaria in the state. The Award has been presented to the state on the occasion of the World Malaria Day today.
Odisha, which was a major contributor of malaria at Global level, has got remarkable achievement in malaria control in terms of Morbidity and Mortality. In comparison to 2016, there has been a 94% decline in cases and 84.3% decline in deaths related to Malaria in the state.
Odisha Government’s own initiative – the Durgama Anchalare Malaria Nirakaran program (DAMaN project), Early Diagnosis and Complete Treatment (EDCT), Capacity Building of different levels of staffs, Intensive monitoring and evaluation of activities and the major vector control measures have successfully helped in controlling the vector borne disease in Odisha.
The drastic shift in the health scenario particularly in the rural areas has been successful due to the effective implementation of the distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets in Odisha. In the first spell during 2017, 1.13 crore LLINs were distributed which was again replenished with 1.56 crore LLINs in the 2nd spell during 2020. The distribution of LLINs in all the high endemic pockets of malaria prone districts and it’s usages along with Indoor Residual Spray (IRS) in rural areas have brought down a drastic shift in health scenario of the state.
