Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday made a blistering attack on the BJP-led Odisha Government, saying that history cannot be changed by changing the name and color.
Launching the BJD’s Jana Sampark Yatra on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Naveen accused the BJP of coming to power by telling lies to the people of the State.
Strongly criticizing the ruling BJP, Naveen said, “You can change name and colour; but you cannot change history. People know everything and the BJP came to power by making false promises”.
Addressing the BJD leaders and workers, Naveen said that the Biju Janata Dal has done a lot for the development of Odisha in the last 24 years. Odisha is in a better position in comparison to the double engine ruled states. Crores of people have been benefited from the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana during the BJD government. Now the BJP government has changed name of the scheme. You can change the name, but cannot change the history, said the BJD President.
The saffron party promised a lot of things during elections to get votes. Are you getting 300 units of free electricity? How many of you got Rs 3000? How many women got Rs 50,000,” questioned the BJD president.
In Odisha, women are not safe even in the police station. The government employees are not safe even in Raj Bhawan. People cannot trust this government.
Naveen said, “You can win elections by telling lies but not the hearts of the people”.
In the last 24 years, Odisha has witnessed developments in the fields of infrastructure, health, education and agriculture. The poverty, which was around 70 percent in the year 2000, has reduced to 10 percent. The per capita income has increased and Odisha is ahead of other states where there is double engine government, he said.
The BJD is in the hearts of the people and will always remain in their hearts. Service and self-respect is our mantra and development is our identity, Naveen said.
