Berhampur: Kaliaguda Upper Primary School, one of the oldest schools in Ganjam district, today celebrated its 100th anniversary with much fanfare in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines.
Founded in 1915 in Bada Barsingi panchayat in Bellaguntha block, the school has established itself as one of the ideal government schools in the district, fulfilling needs and aspirations of the students in the region.
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, Dr. Gopabandhu Dash and Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange have graced the celebrations of 100th anniversary of the school.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Dash said that Ganjam district has created its special identity for education not only in the State but also in the country.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has always given utmost priority on education. The Mo School Abhiyan has been one of the instrumental steps of Chief Minister in bringing transformation in the school environment, Dr. Dash said.
He also appealed to the alumni and locals to join the Mo School campaign for the all-round development of the school.
He further said that investment in education is an investment in future of our children. Years ago, there were no basic facilities in the schools in the Odisha. Students used to sit on mud floor. Now we can see the changes and transformation in the school with all facilities, he said.
“If you educate a woman, you can educate a nation. Hence, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has always given priority on the girls’ education”, he said while lauding the contribution of women SHG groups for the development of the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said that school is like a temple and all should contribute for its development.
He also urged the former students and villagers to join in the Mo School movement to bring holistic development of the school.
Kulange also thanked the teachers and staff members of Kaliaguda UPS for developing a pleasant environment for the students for learning.
The Ganjam Collector also inaugurated the Smart Classroom and garden inside the school premise.
Prize distribution ceremony was conducted by the school to felicitate the meritorious students.
Rameshwar Patro, representative of Bada Barsingi Sarpanch, coordinated the programme.
