Bhubaneswar: Odisha Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera on Monday informed that there are currently 20,260 prisoners lodged in jails across the State.
The Minister gave this data in the Legislative Assembly while replying to a question asked by BJD MLA Umakanta Samantray.
Behera stated that as many as 16,876 under-trail male prisoners and 623 female prisoners are lodged in various jails across the State.
11 male prisoners are waiting for capital punishment and 1543 jail inmates are serving life imprisonment, he added.
