5T Chairman Asks SPCB, Urban Devt Dept, BMC to Take Immediate Steps to Keep Daya River Pollution-Free

Bhubaneswar: 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman VK Pandian today asked the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), Urban Development Department and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take immediate steps to keep the water of Daya river pollution-free.

Pandian chaired a high level meeting to discuss the measures to keep the Daya river free from pollution.

As per the decisions taken in the meeting, it has been made mandatory to connect the contaminated water of various establishments in the BMC area to the sewage line.

The 5T Chairman also directed to create awareness so that all the houses in Bhubaneswar can be connected to the sewage line at the earliest.

The WATCO is carrying out sewerage works at various areas in Bhubaneswar.

The 5T Chairman directed WATCO to speed up the sewerage work and complete it within the specified time frame and to take steps to connect all areas of the city including the slums to the sewerage system.

In the meeting, it was decided to build a treatment plant using the latest technology by WATCO at the confluence of the Daya river and Ganguar to purify the water of the river Daya.

Bhubaneswar also has various industries. Regular inspections will be conducted by IDCO, State Pollution Control Board and BMC to ensure proper treatment of their effluents and water. A decision has been taken in a meeting for regular technical inspection by WATCO and SPCB before reaching various sewage treatment plants in Bhubaneswar.

Pandian directed the BMC to keep a close watch on the waste generating industries and other establishments in the BMC area to keep the water of the Daya river clean.

The Daya Task Force under the chairmanship of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Vice-Chairman Balwant Singh has taken steps in coordination with various agencies to keep Daya river water clean. In the meeting, Singh made a presentation about the steps taken in this regard.
