Admin Gears up for ‘Nagarjuna Besha’ on Thrusday, Here is Programme List

Puri: Authorities are now gearing up for the Nagarjuna Besha festivities scheduled for November 27, when the deities will don the warrior uniform in a symbolic gesture amid pandemic.

However,  the devotees will not be witness to Nagarjuna Besha of the Trinity in Sri Jagannath temple this year due to pandemic.

The Besha will be organised only with participation of servitors and temple officials. There will be no live telecast of the event as well.

This celebration of Nagarjuna Besha is special since it is observed only in those years where the ‘panchaka’, the last five days of the holy month of Karthika, is observed for six days. This event is to happen after a lapse of 26 years. It was earlier observed on November, 26, 1963, November 26, 1966, November 16, 1967 and November 3, 1968. The last Nagarjuna Besha celebration was observed on November 16, 1994.

There will be a three-layer security would be put around the temple for the ritual. Nobody except servitors and temples officials on duty would be allowed into the shrine. The costume and ornaments of the deities would be brought to the temple from Harchandi Sahi amid tight security by the servitors by 2 am on Thursday following which the temple doors would be opened.
