After Madras High Court Jolt, Narayanasamy Asks Kiran Bedi to Resign

Chennai: Armed with the Madras High Court’s judgment, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy has coming down heavily on Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi. The Chief Minister has demanded Kiran Bedi to immediately resign from her post.

The Madras High Court on Tuesday had given a judgment saying Puducherry is not like the National Capital Delhi and the Lieutenant-Governor Kiran Bedi cannot interfere in the daily affairs of the elected government of the Union Territory. The decision has been welcomed by the Congress Government.  V Narayansami has termed the judgment as a victory of Democracy. The High Court also set aside the two communications issued in January and June 2017 by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs “elevating” the power of the administrator.

The Madras High Court referred to the Supreme Court judgment on the conflict between the AAP Government and LG Anil Baijal, and said restrictions imposed on the government of Delhi are not applicable to the government of Puducherry. The decision taken by the council of ministers and the chief minister is binding on the secretaries and other officials.” “The apex court has clearly held that there is a distinction between the National Capital Territory of Delhi and Puducherry,” the judge said.

Chief Minister Narayanasamy has been in conflict with the LG for her interference in the day to day activities of the State. Few days back, he had also resorted to Dharana in front of the LG’s residence. The Chief Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi always talks about co-operative federalism, but believes in dictatorship. This is a slap on both the Narendra Modo government and the LG. Reacting to the Judgment, Kiran Bedi said that we are examining the judgment. She again stressed her involvement and said she did so for the development of the people of Puducherry.
