Bhubaneswar: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) cameras is helping the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) authorities to tackle the forest fire effectively.
The number of forest fire incidents from Similipal National Park is less this summer so far compared to the last year due to the use of AI cameras, according to forest officials.
The AI technology enables to get quick information on the forest fire and alerts the forest officers to take action. As many as five tower-based AI cameras have been installed on a priority basis across the park. These cameras are capable of 360-degree surveillance. Forest personnel reach the affected areas by using GPS navigation and douse the fire. As many as 209 fire points have been identified so far and the fires were brought under control.
Steps will be taken to install more AI cameras at the vulnerable points in the national park in the future, the STR authorities stated.
