Kendrapada: A woman gave birth to a baby girl inside a fire brigade van amidst intense rain triggered by the super cyclone ‘Amphan’ in Kendrapada today.
The girl child was born when Janaki Sethi of Jahanra village was being taken to Mahakalpada Primary Health Centre (PHC) today morning in the fire brigade vehicle.
Swung into the action quickly, the fire brigade personnel reached village, which was cut off due to uprooted trees on the road, by clearing the road. Since, the woman was experiencing labour pain and in in a critical condition, the fire brigade team shifted her in their van without waiting for the ambulance to come. The woman delivered the baby in the vehicle before reaching hospital.
The relative of the mother said, she was experiencing labour pain since morning but could not be taken to the hospital as the ambulance find it difficult to reach the village because of road blockade by uprooted trees. Wasting no time, the family member then made an emergency call to the fire station for help.
Exhibiting exemplary professionalism, the fire brigade team reached the village after cutting down the trees and removing other obstacles from the road to the village.
The mother and the child are safe in the Mahakalpada PHC.
