Angul: Angul district aspires to become the top start-up destination in Odisha, as per a vision document preferred by the district administration.
Angul is fast becoming a hub for a variety of industries. It has developed an excellent industrial infrastructure. By 2023, Angul will emerge as the country’s best model of mining area development in a challenging environment, with its sustainability embedded in ecological protection, cultural heritage and human development.
Since Angul is an industrial hub, with many bright minds and entrepreneurial ideas, we wish to tap these ideas in Convergence to priority sectors of DMF, said district Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain.
In a bid to encourage incubators, including sector specific ones aligning with the district’s strengthens and requirements, the district administration has decided to develop a world class ‘Start-up Hub’ in Angul by 2025.
It also aims to create an enabling environment and supporting eco-system that facilitates at least 50 start-ups in next five years in the district.
The district administration has also decided to develop a holistic start-up ecosystem in order to enable the district to become the top start-up designation in the State.
It has also planned to implement a supportive regulatory framework and robust governance structure that enables hassle-free, time bound statutory clearances and monitoring to encourage the start-ups to implement their ideas in the district.
The ideas will be invited as per the requirement of the District and according to different themes. There will be support from thematic experts to individual start-ups. On selection, there will be seed funding of 50% of the capital cost (excluding the cost of building) up to a maximum of Rs.1 crore, which may be given to an approved agency to implement their idea in Angul district, where the maximum impact will be on the locals, the district administration said.
