Assembly Passes Odisha Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 Paving Way For Land Rights To Slum Dwellers In Five Municipal Corporations

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly Tuesday has passed the Odisha Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill 2022 thereby paving the way for conferment of land rights to the slum dwellers of the five Municipal Corporations of the state. This will benefit about 2.4 lakh families of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela. Urban Development Minister Pratap Jena had introduced the Bill in the Assembly.

According to sources, the government intends to build Biju Adarsha Colonies in the Municipal Corporation areas. Each slum household will be provided land rights to the extent of 30 square meters.

The government also intends to give houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awash Yojana in the urban areas. The government has also decided to give Rs 20 thousand incentive to the beneficiaries who complete the construction work within four months.
