Attempted Break-in at IAF’s Rafale Project Management Team Office in Paris: Reports

New Delhi: An attempt was made to break-in into the Paris office of the Indian Air Force Rafale Project Management Team, media reports stated.

The IAF team headed by a Group rank officer was assigned to oversee the 36 Rafale aircraft production as well as for the training of the Indian personnel as the NDA government is planning to purchase the ‘ready to fly’ fighter jets of Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft amid growing controversy.

The team works from an office located in a suburb of Paris in France.

The Defence Ministry has been informed about the incident by the Air Force, according to sources.

However, it is not clear whether the break-in into the facility was an attempt at espionage, which is serious concern for the IAF, sources said.

Notably, the Modi government has been facing sharp criticism from the Opposition over the Rafale jet deal.

The deal is estimated to cost India a whopping Rs 58,000 crore, thrice the amount the initial deal that was rejected by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in 2012.
