Bar Council Of India Constitutes Fact Finding Committee To Look Into The Matter Of Vandalism of Court Premises In Sambalpur 

New Delhi: The Bar Council of India has constituted a three-member “Fact Finding Committee” to find out the advocates who were indulged in the vandalism of Sambalpur District Court premises.

“A three member “Fact Finding Committee” is being constituted to find out the persons Advocates who were really behind the curtain and at whose instigation the entire occurrence has taken place”, the BCI stated in its press release.

The Committee will consist of D.P Dhal, Senior Advocate, Co-Chairman, Bar Council of India; Manas Mahapatra, Senior Advocate, Member, Special Committee, State Bar Council of Odisha and Yashobanta Das, Senior Advocate. The Committee will submit its report to Bar Council of India before 15th January, 2023. The Council said that if the Committee finds the involvement of any Advocate (whose suspension is being revoked by BCI), such Advocate maybe again put under suspension.

Further, the Bar Council of India has suspended another 11 advocates for involvement in the vandalism taking the total number of suspensions to 54. The BCI has asked 54 advocates under suspension to furnish the explanation to the Show Cause Notice by February 15, 2023 as to why the order of suspension passed against them be not made absolute. The further decision will be taken in this matter, after consideration of their replay and after hearing. Till then, the suspension order against them shall remain in force, the BCI said.

The Bar Council of India also revoked the suspension of all advocates of Sambalpur Bar Association except the 54 members who have been identified to be involved in the vandalism.
