Battle for UP: FIR against Mukhtar Ansari’s son for controversial remark

Mau (Uttar Pradesh): The Uttar Pradesh Police have lodged an FIR against gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s son, Abbas Ansari, for allegedly threatening government officials with payback, at a public rally in Mau district.

Abbas Ansari, who is contesting the Assembly polls as a candidate of the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP)-Samajwadi Party alliance, said at a rally that he had asked SP chief Akhilesh Yadav not to transfer officials right away after forming the government, as he has a score to settle with them.

“I have asked SP chief Akhilesh Yadav that no transfers or postings will happen for six months. First, ‘hisab kitab’ will happen with them. Only then their transfer certificates would be stamped,” he said on Thursday.

Video clips of Abbas Ansari’s controversial remarks went viral on social media.

Additional Director General Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, verified the authenticity of the video and ordered that an FIR be registered against Ansari for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

Ansari, 30, is contesting from the Mau Sadar Assembly constituency, which goes to polls in the seventh and final phase of voting on March 7.

The seat was held by his father Mukhtar Ansari who is presently in jail.

Abbas Ansari is pitted against BJP candidate Ashok Singh, BSP’s state president Bhim Rajbhar, and Congress nominee Madhavendra Bahadur Singh.
