Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today met the newly elected Mayors and Chairpersons of the state and urged them to be always with the public and work hard with devotion to make their respective cities best in all fields. He was speaking at the inauguration of the Orientation Workshop titled Urban Governance and Initiatives held at the Lok Seva Bhawan.
In his speech, Naveen gave the Mantra to the newly elected people’s representatives to take leadership in making their cities the best and work with devotion. He also advised them to be always with the people and work for solving their problems.
Naveen said, the initiatives and programs of the Government of Odisha have received national and international recognition. Jaga Mission has turned out to be a model for the developing countries. Likewise, Odisha is the only and leading state in the country for implementing the ambitious Sujal Drink from Tap water project. He also stressed on various flagship initiatives such as the Mukta Yojana, Aahaar and Smart LED Lighting.
The Chief Minister said the government has given importance to people and not on land while starting the Jaga Mission in Odisha for development of the bastis. Till date one lakh seventy five thousand families have been give land rights and 585 Bastis have been transformed into Adarsh Bastis.
While the Sujal program has been successfully implemented in Puri, work is progressing in another 20 cities in this regard. He also said that, the Mukta Yojana started for the poor people and labourers during the Covid pandemic, will continue and the government has made a budgetary provision of Rs 500 crore for this. Being implemented in association with Mission Shakti and Slum Development Associations, this program has become very popular. While stressing on cleanliness, Naveen said the priority should be on waste management.
Naveen said that, during the last Urban elections, a large number of women have participated and won. I congratulate all of them and call upon them to do good work and keep the faith of the people.
The chief Minister advised the newly elected members to give importance to the 5T Principles as they have played an important role in the transformation of Urban Development. He also hoped that the new leadership and the new management will take the urban bodies to new heights of development.
Taking part in the workshop, Housing and Urban Development Minister Pratap Jena advised the newly elected Mayrs and Chairpersons to work towards successful implementation of the various urban development initiatives.
Among others, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, Principal Secretary HUD, G Mathivathanan, and Director, Urban Development, Sangramjit Nayak were present on the occasion.
