Bhubaneswar: Berhampur Police has cracked the mysterious death of a minor boy and arrested the accused involved in the crime.
The police said that Siba Das (7) of Kamapali village in Jagadalpur area under Nimakhandi PS, who died suspiciously, was murdered.
The accused indentified as one Nath Das (60) of the same village was arrested. The police also seized one towel that was used to strangulate the deceased boy.
On the evening of May 14 this year, an UD case was registered on the report of Balmiki Das in which he alleged that his minor son died suspiciously.
Inquest was conducted and a ligature mark was found on the neck of the minor boy during inquest. After the receipt of post mortem report, the doctor opined that the ligature mark could be due to constriction of neck by means of soft and broad ligature materials like towel, the Police said.
On the basis of post mortem report and enquiry, the case was turned to murder case and IIC Nimakhandi PS took up investigation of the case.
During investigation various witnesses were examined and scientific investigation was continuously done under the supervision of senior officers. Many suspects were thoroughly interrogated. Finally, an eye witness to the occurrence was found (grandson of accused) who stated that on May 14 while he was entering into the house of Nath Das, he found the accused strangulating Siba Das on the first floor of his house.
The accused kept the body of the deceased on the roof of neighbour’s house. Thus the accused tried to conceal the evidence. But after through interrogation he disclosed the fact.
Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M gave details about the motive behind the murder of the boy.
Around 7 to 8 years ago, the grandfather of the deceased boy and the accused person wanted to purchase the same land which the grandfather of the deceased bought at a higher cost. Due to this accused developed a grudge since long and on the particular day when no one was around he murdered the boy, the SP said.
