Berhampur: Intensifying its enforcement drive following the imposition of Model Code of Conduct for the ensuing elections 2024, Berhampur Police has seized huge quantity of foreign liquor at the inter-state border check gate.
On March 20, the Marine Police team under SI Athiti Nayak during checking found one pick up van coming suspiciously and while checking 1053 litres of foreign liquor being transported illegally by one accused towards Andhra Pradesh was detected.
Further the interrogation of the accused detained at Marine PS. More seizures were made from a locked house at village Rameya Patna under Golanthara PS by a team lead by SDPO Sadar Subhrahshu Parida.
The seizure includes 3336.24 Litres of Foreign Liquor kept in 335 cartoons and one TATA ACE pick-up van. The market value of the seized liquors is around Rs 25 lakhs.
The accused P. Gopi of Pati Sonapur village under Marine PS was arrested and forwarded to Court.
The Inter-state Border Check Gates have been activated along the Srikakulam district by Berhampur police since the imposition of MCC. 24 x 7 vehicle checking is conducted at the BCPs, said Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
Further investigation is going on to arrest the other accused persons involved, the Berhampur SP informed.
